About the trip

Khao-Yai National Park announced as the first national park in 1959.  And Khao Yai is now one of the World’s Natural Heritage Sites in Thailand  The park is well managed and is most frequently visited by both local and foreign nature lovers. It’s mountainous area of 2,168 sq.km and about 160-km northeast of Bangkok . The park contains several streams and beautiful waterfalls and conserves a large population of mammals such as Asian elephant, gibbon, guar, deer and tiger. Visitors can stroll along the roadside or on one of the walking trails through the forest or simply in the grassland and have a close contact with a bunch of lively and colorful birds.


Khao-Yai supports a total of 318 bird species. Birding is good and convenient throughout the year. The most attractive birds includes the Crested Serpent-Eagle, Scarlet Minivet, Orange-breasted and Red-headed Trogon, Great Hornbill, Wreath Hornbill, Hill Myna, White-crested Laughingthrush, Red Jungle Fowl, Common Flameback, Blue-winged Leafbird, Black-crested Bulbul and Green Magpie.

Itinerary

Day 1 (L, D)

Depart your Bangkok hotel at 0700 for the 2-hours travel by private vehicle to Khao Yai National Park. An area dominated by hill evergreen forest above1,000 m. After lunch, set out on a roadside birding tour in the area of the headquarters and take a short easy walk through the grassland habitat of Nong Phak Chi for birding and on the lookout for some of the other wildllife that inhabits the park. Possible sightings include Wild Dog, Sambar Deer, Stock billed-Kingfisher, Bright-capped Cisticola, Hill Myna and Wreathed Hornbill. After dinner, we head out on a nighttime spotlighting trip on the look out for deer, civet, porcupine, slow loris and possibly elephant. Overnight: Juldis Resort.

Day 2 (B, L)

Spend the morning birding in some of Khao Yai's best evergreen forest. Look out for Red-headed Trogon, Slaty-backed Forktail, Blue Pitta, Greater Flameback, Dusky Broadbill, Banded Broadbill, Blue-winged Leafbird, Green Magpie, White-crested Laughingthrush and many more. Depart the park at approximately 1500 for the transfer back to Bangkok. Arrive back at your hotel at approximately 1900.
